Hi Everyone!

Well, I wasn't quite ready to let summer go, but, now that its autumn, I thought a hearty meal would be in order to cushion us from the cold. I have heard good buzz about this place so I picked the Laurelhurst Market for our October 14th dinner. They are at 3155 E Burnside St. We have reservations for 6:30 p.m. Please let me know if you can come. Hope so! See you there!

Liz

Despite the place being absolutely packed and SUPER busy the service was attentive and the food was excellent. I had corned beef shortrib and it was amazing in flavor and texture - so rich! I started with the chantrelle and leek tart which was more like a slice of pizza - savory mushrooms, flakey crust - delicious! And the pecan pie is like no other - loaded with pecans and the sweetness tasted like it was imparted by fine honey instead of corn syrup - wow! Also, a first, I ordered gin & tonic and it arrived with a slight red hue to it - they explained that they make thier own tonic water with extra quinine and such - I thought I tasted just a hint of red pepper - surprising and very nice. Parking is inadequate for a place so popular and the prices are high, but, for a change, the quality of the experience lived up it! I wish more of you could have joined us but the company is always wonderful even when our group is small - thanks eveyone!

This place was amazing! I started with a French onion soup that was probably the best I've had. Dark broth, loaded with onions, great cheese topping & so hot I burned my buds. Pulled pork was on the menu so of course the southern girl had to check it out. It came served with chopped cold slaw & a Carolina sauce. I asked for some Ozark sweet sauce on the side. mmmmm The pork was so tender & tasty that you had a hint of the smokey flavor before it hit your tongue. Sandwich came with fries that were crispy but not greasy. My chocolate dessert was nothing to brag about but not bad either. I'll be back! Oh yeah, and to carry on the tradition, I was again served LAST;) Holly

I will echo Liz and Holly, and say that this was a delicious place! My starter was the Charcuterie plate, and it did not disappoint. The pâtés and slaumi were delicious, and the pickle selections very unique. They even had a couple pickled strawberries on the plate; a first, but not last for me. The steak frites was very good, with the piece of beef living up to its description of being lean, tender and full flavour. And when I asked for it bleu, it was just right; flavourful brown crust on the absolute exterior and still very very rare everywhere else. The fries were spot on! Very blond in colour, but perfectly crispy, cooked through, and not greasy in the slightest. The Cauliflower Polonaise was also very yummy, if a little heavy on the bread crumbs. I'm looking forward to returning, and giving the pecan pie a go.
