Summer is a time for fresh fruits and veggies, lots of salads and light meals. Well, I'm going to shake things up with my suggestion for the August dinner .... German food!!
I've been wanting to try The Berlin Inn at 3131 SE 12th and Powell Blvd, just east of the Ross Island Bridge. It's a German Restaurant, Bakery and Wine Stube. I read about it in an Oregonian restaurant review. (It was given a "B" rating). The review said: " The Berlin Inn serves dinners that are excellent introductions to the cuisine that's the original comfort food: potato pancakes, tomato soup, pot roast, pork loin, schnitzels, wursts, dumplings, noodles and red cabbage -- dishes that support characteristic herbs and spices such as juniper berries, dill and carraway seeds, and flavors that are sweet-and-sour and briny". They also warn to be prepared to take home a doggy bag!
The menu highlights Fondues, Salads, Hot Sandwiches, Mittag Essen (Smaller Plates), Abendessen (Larger Entrees), Single Schnitzel Plates, and "Light and Luscious European Desserts Made from Scratch".
I've made the reservation for 6:30 p.m.on August 8th, with a starting number of 12. I can increase or decrease that number as your RSVP's come in.

I liked my Rouladen a lot - it's one of my favorite German dishes & too much work to make at home. And the spaetzle & red cabbage were fantastic. I wasn't crazy about the sauerbraten -- too salty & not tangy enough for my taste.
The waitress was a crackup & very considerate to split out everyone's checks individually.
It's always so much fun at these get-togethers!
For me, The Berlin Inn did not disappoint. My Schnitzel was very good and the Peach Strudel was fabulous. I felt that the prices were a bit high, particularly the wine. But all in all, I will definitely go back - there are more wonderful desserts to try!! I also felt we received excellent service and it was fun to have our very own room. Lisa, our waitperson, commented to me later that she enjoyed seeing a group of women having so much fun. This was a nice finale for me, as I start back with my choral group on Sept.12, so I won't be able to join you again until Christmas. Have fun and take care.....
That chocolate dessert was amazing altho I can't recall the name of it. It had a slight bit of salt on the outer edge that sent me to heaven:) Chocolate & salt combo are a favorite of mine! I found my meal to be kinda bland except for the cucumber salad which was great. The first bite of the spaetzle was pretty good but I think I let it cool off too much to be impressive after the first bite. Alas, the visiting with everyone was the highlight as always! Holly
I enjoyed my Waldorf Salad, it was very flavorful, the peach strudel was heavenly. I thought the prices were a bit steep. The waitress was very good and the separate checks were above and beyond!
I thought the Hausthaus(sp?)Schnitzel was delicious, the red cabbage very good but the spaetzle left me flat - no flavor whatsoever but better once I dosed it with lots of salt & pepper. The chocolate Grand Marnier cake for dessert was outstanding! As everyone else said - our waitress was top rate and to receive separate checks for such a large group without having to ask for such service was unprecedented in my experience! SO good to see everybody - thanks, Sue! Sorry we won't be seeing you & Renee for awhile but know you will be having a wondeful time with the choir.
I've been slow to respond but . . .my schnitzel was very good; the spaetzle was bland; cabbage salad had an unusual flavor--we thought it might be cinnamon. My lemon desert was heavenly. The waitress was attentive, professional but also had a good sense of humor and I agree--the separate checks each in its own folder made for a smooth ending to a wonderful evening. Thank you, Atsu, for introducing me to such a delightful group of people! MaryO
