Since it is getting close to Jan dinner date & no one has claimed it, I guess I will take it. I've chosen Miss Delta.
I made a tentative reservation for Wed, Jan 14 at 6:30pm for 12. Guessing nowhere near that will make it but better to be high than low on the count. I told them I'd adjust to a closer to realistic number next week. I picked this out of the Diner 2008 that came out in June.
They don't have a website with menu items but it is Southern (imagine me picking that!). The write up made my mouth water & it says they are almost always packed which is a good sign.
Please let me know if you can make it. Hope you all had wonderful holidays & a good NYE celebration!

For a Southern place, this joint rocked! The traditional stuff - black-eyed peas, collards, grits, hushpuppies, fried okra, catfish, ribs, etc. My chicken & dumplings were very flavorful with chunks of potato, carrots & chicken. The fried okra was nice & crunchy but not quite as good as Mom's. Close. The bourbon bread pudding was outstanding with pecans & just the right hint of bourbon. Melt in your mouth:) Everything I had a taste of was great! I'll be back.
I really enjoyed my meal! The blackened catfish was cooked perfectly and the sides of black-eyed peas and greens were very good, too. They also make a truly excellent martini! The taste I had of Paul's cheese grits and the bread pudding orderd by Cheese & Holly were awesome! I thought our waitress was very thoughtful and did a great job!
I liked this place, too! And it was fun to sample the hushpuppies, deep fried okra, and cheese grits (thanks, Holly & Paul!). Collard greens were savory with pork (and I was impressed they had a vegan version, too). My fried chicken was good, but I'm still looking for the place that does it (& chicken gravy) as good as my mom.
I really enjoyed my meal. The cooks in the kitchen walked that fine line when frying things; everything had a very rich, amber colour, but nothing tasted charred or burnt. My Cheese Grits were delicious; I've never had them with a tomato sauce like that before. They'd make any Southern Mammy and Italian Don very very satisfied!!
The ribs were to die for! The sauce was scrumptious, the meat fell off the bone and melted in your mouth! Loved the mac and cheese too --one could have that for a meal in itself! The portion was generous (whole rack!) enough that I was able to take some home for hubby to enjoy and now he is dying to go there. Great pick Hollywood! --cb
